Do Exogenous Ketone Supplements Boost Fat Loss and Athletic Performance?

Exogenous ketones are a dietary supplement that people primarily use as a fat burner. According to exogenous ketone advocates, taking exogenous ketone supplements puts you into a metabolic state where your body burns fat instead of carbohydrates for fuel. This, they say, boosts fat burning without you needing to follow a specialized diet. Detractors argue that this is really just an attempt to profit on the upsurge in interest in the ketogenic diet, which is related but quite different than simply popping some exogenous ketones.  Who should you believe?  Can exogenous ketone supplements help you lose fat, or are they just another scam that should burn in the dumpster fire with most other fat loss supplements? Listen on Apple Podcasts | Listen on Spotify | Listen on YouTube In this podcast, I interview Luke, who read my book Bigger Leaner Stronger and did 6 months of Legion’s VIP one-on-one coaching program to finally dial in his training and nutrition, improve his body composition, and get leaner and stronger than ever before. And the best part is he did it while spending less time in the gym, simplifying his fitness regimen, and learning to love the lifestyle. Now, he not only enjoys his training, but looks forward to it every day. Enjoyment is the secret to consistency, which will help Luke continue to make progress and maintain his physique for the rest of his life. Before finding my work, Luke had a “skinny fat” look and spent 2 or 3 hours in the gym per day. But through educating himself with my book and following the program of his coach, Nick, he was able to get down to 8% body fat, and get stronger than he’s ever been. In this interview, Luke and I chat about . . .  How he

Should You Wear Barefoot Running Shoes?

Image
Barefoot shoes are minimalist shoes with thin soles that aim to approximate the sensation of walking or running completely barefoot. Proponents of minimalist footwear often claim that modern shoes with their narrow, constrictive shape and thick soles wreak havoc on people’s anatomy and joints—scrunching the toes and throwing the ankles, knees, and hips out of alignment, which damages joints and undermines your running efficiency. Instead, they argue, the only function of shoes should be to protect the bottom of your feet, nothing more.  Others think this is horsefeathers.  According to these folks, modern footwear is a significant stride (harhar) ahead of barefoot shoes, and the latter is just a contrarian fad.  Who’s right?   Table of Contents What Are Barefoot, Minimalist, and Zero-Drop Running Shoes?
